Or more accurately the Aspartame contained within Diet Coke as a replacement to sugar in regular soda’s.
Claire Ayton a teaching assistant from Pailton in Warwickshire was regularly drinking 7 pints of Diet Coke a day (just under 4 litres) in order to get her fix.
When Claire decided enough was enough she consulted a Hypnotherapist who concluded that she wasn’t addicted to Diet Coke itself but to the Aspartame
contained within it, this Aspartame addiction had led Claire to become addicted to sugary foods in general so rather than losing weight or staying the same she ballooned from 10 stone up to 13 1/2, just the results you want from a diet product!
Many of you reading this blog won’t be surprised by this at all, we have all known for far too long that Aspartame is addictive and the many other dangers Aspartame poses to your health like – Headaches/Migraines, Weight Gain, Depression, Insomnia the list goes on!
And those are only in the short term, studies have shown that Aspartame can trigger or worsen – Epilepsy, Diabetes, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis and even Brain Tumours.
The BIG problem -
Obviously Diet Coke has huge advertising campaigns worldwide directed for the most part at figure/image conscious women with the premise that it is much better to drink the zero calorie diet version of Coke than the sugary normal version.
These campaigns have been going on for many years, we remember dozens of Diet Coke Ads from years gone by and were sure they were around long before some of us and due to this longevity it is so engrained in peoples minds, habits and day to day lives they neglect to ask what for us is a hugely important question -
What do they put in to Diet Coke instead of Sugar? (people just don’t think to ask this!)
For us this would be a given but when a product becomes such a big part of culture and is marketed so cleverly it is as if that time has simply been and gone.
Most people are of the mindset that “It’s diet, so it’s can’t be bad for me” which highlights way too much blind trust is placed in products mass marketed by the global food conglomerates!
Back to the original story and Amanda Ursell The Sun newspapers Nutritionist has this view -
“Her 2424mg of aspartame a day is unlikely to have done any lasting harm. But I can only imagine the bloating she felt consuming such large quantities of gassy drinks.”
Does that highlight a lack of eduction amongst so called professionals? A bit of conscious ignorance? Or simply another person thrown off by the Coca-Cola marketing machine, who knows?
The mainstream media is never likely to publicise just how dangerous Aspartame is and it would be a waste of time waiting for them to do so, so from now just make sure when it comes to family, friends and people you care about you tell them about the Dangers of Aspartame!
